The Student Union of Laurea University of Applied Sciences (LAUREAMKO) is an autonomous, public corporation. The activities of the student union is based on the law of the Universities of Applied Sciences. According to the law, the Student Union is part of the University of Applied Sciences and its mission is to act on behalf of the students and as their representative in the matters inside the school. In short, when a decision is made, the Student Union is asked.

LAUREAMKO works mainly in Laurea by influencing the issues discussed inside the school. The student union is a member of the National Union of the Finnish Polytechnic Students SAMOK. SAMOK supervises the interests of the Finnish polytechnic students together with all the student unions.
 
Each and every student of Laurea can join the student union. LAUREAMKO supervises and develops the interests of the students in Laurea, acts as a link and a channel of communication for its members and develops the conditions and contents of teaching and studying by for example making proposals and statements as well as participating in different working groups of Laurea.
 
The highest power of LAUREAMKO is in the hands of the Council of Representatives. There are 15 members selected by elections each year. The Council elects members to the Board which is in charge of the practicalities together with their hired secretaries. In each unit LAUREAMKO is represented by a local unit whose task is to provide the students with extra services and organise events.
