The Aftermath of the Fresher"s Event
It was once again time to welcome the new students of Laurea in the form of Fresher's Event on the 9th of February. As most of you already know, the Fresher's Event is one of the biggest things of the semester and therefore it is faced with lots of expectations coming from the freshmen in addition to the organizers. Yours truly was deep into his skin afraid that the participants would be driven away by the cold weather into warm bars rather than outside playing in the frosty snow. Luckily, the state of fearfulness was only imaginary and it's safe to say that the atmosphere in the freezing Helsinki was more hotter than the streets of Cairo.
This semester some of the tasks included in the event was the creation of a snowman, pantomime performances and collecting some of the most weirdest things known to human imagination. Unfortunately I didn't have time to see every group's perfomance on the tasks, but I heard from reliable sources that the groups had more attitude than ever.. Loud singing and laughter was heard in the streets of Helsinki. It's going to be a real challenge to try to match next fall's Fresher's Event with this one even though the fall semester is usually more enjoyed because of the simple fact that it's warmer in September.
When the day turned into an evening the streets of Helsinki were switched to the premises of the nightclub Onnela. There the first 200 students were given the unique overall badges of the Fresher's Event. I personally can't remember a LAUREAMKO party where people were having so much fun than this afterparty. The knowledge of a great party was spread even outside of Onnela and as a small unique detail I can add that the personnel of Onnela came to ask us if they could open the downstairs premises as well because people were coming through doors and windows. Interesting conversations and fist-pumping on the dancefloor continued till the closing of the nightclub at which point the happy, but tired party people continued their way into their homes. At the same time counting days until the next LAUREAMKO party, which is the Pub Crawl held in March!
