Student union seminar, Porvoo

Our student union spent the last weekend at their first seminar in the middle of nowhere. The meaning of the whole seminar was to go through matters which require long-term focusing and the attention of all the members around the same table.
This time our destination was Jyty-union’s cottage in Rönnäs near Porvoo. Friday’s program included some general discussions and brainstorming on how to make student union grow exponentially. If you have some great ideas then please do help us out! Though WE got some ideas put on a paper and we will possibly start using them as well during this year.
The rest of the evening was dedicated to relaxation in the form of sauna, food and fireplace while at the same time getting to know each other better. And of course let’s not forget the oh-so powering and refreshing sleeping.
The next morning started with pancakes or crepes or whatever you wish to call them. With the power invested in us by the crepes, we started working on the lobbying sector and its political agenda. As we are getting closer and closer to the elections, it is crucial to form the guidelines on which direction we want to drive our students and student union matters. Political agenda will be presented to the body of representatives in the spring meeting in which they will hopefully approve of it. The political agenda is designed to work the next three years, but it can be updated annually if needed.
In addition to the political agenda we formed some more guidelines and updated previous ones. Also we planned the Laakeri-magazine, its staff and contents. Laakeri will be published next fall.
The day was really long and letters and words were jumping and twirling in front of our eyes, but we made it! We went through everything that we were supposed to. After a hard day we competed playfully with serious minds in the championship of the student union in the game called Bezzerwizzer. During playing the game we experienced great feelings and drama like you’d never seen. Eventually we all shook hands and washed away the sweat of the game in the sauna.
Part of the group left home for a good-night sleep while others stayed behind to study for future Bezzerwizzer games. You better watch yourself!
Sunday morning we collected the last question cards from the corners and trash cans and sauna and headed back to our normal lives.
