Highest decision making body will change

Highest decision making body will change

About a week ago you received an e-mail about the election of Student Union Council of Representatives. Maybe you didn’t read it or read and didn’t know what was it about? No worries. That e-mail was the first info of the election and of the Council of Representatives. Hopefully this will give you more info.

LAUREAMKO’s Council of Representatives is the student union’s highest decision-making body. This means that the council of representatives oversees the actions of Student union’s board and staff, decides Student union’s actions regarding the union’s action plan and directs the flow of the action. So if you have the best ideas about what the Student union should or shouldn’t do, council of representatives might be just the place for you. Complaining about things like too many parties, too few sport events, lame cultural events or anything is useless, you can make the change.

Every Autumn 15 members are elected for the Council for next year. Members are ordinary students of Laurea, just like you and me. Every member of the Student Union who has paid their membership fee has the right to vote and the right to be a nominee. More info about voting and how to be a nominee is in the e-mail! You must sign up to be a nominee before 11.10. 3 pm, so you have little over a week to make the right decision.

Standing for the Council gives you more than it takes. First of all you will get to participate in decision making about matters related to studies and the union. Furthermore you’ll have valuable experience about union activities and meetings, new friends, fun times and knowledge. It gives skills, that are useful in the future and a nice bonus in your CV.

President of the Council 2010 Anne Räty describes her year like this:

“During winter 2009 my good friend Saikku inspired me to be a nominee in the election of Student Union Council of Representatives for the year 2010. We both study in Lohja, which is quite small unit and our goal was to get even one of us to the council of representatives, so that way we and our unit could be heard there. Luckily we were both elected and encouraged by my friends; I decided to run for the President of the Council. I felt very excited, because I had just started my studies and didn’t know much about the Student Union and its actions, although I was a local actor in my unit. After a tight vote I was nominated as the President of the Council of Representatives for the year 2010. This year has been interesting and challenging; I have learnt loads of new things, met new people and found the courage and joy of being the President. I haven’t regretted once, there has been good and bad times both. I have had the chance to observe the Board’s actions and influence in it. It gives me great pleasure to be a part of Student Union, which works for the best of every student. I’d like to encourage everyone to be a nominee in the election.”

Don’t think about it anymore, be a nominee! You’ll lose nothing and can get everything. And even if you’re not going to be a nominee, remember to vote! Every vote counts.

Greetings
Chairman of the central election committee of LAUREAMKO
