Power for Peer Guidance 17-18.2

The normal everyday life ofLAUREMKO’s student union is not only planning parties even though it takes a lot of time and we organise them a lot too. The members of the student union spend their parts of their free-time in different seminars, meetings, workshops etc. This is my story about one of these seminars.
Virtaa Vertaisohjaukseen(power for peer guidance) – seminar was organized in Lahti on the 17th and 18th of February. The main focus of the seminar was the thematics of peer guidance and universities student tutors and personnel which worked as their maun focus group. I went to this two-day seminar with a trusted combat partner Heidi Salo.
The morning started the same way as my every single winter morning this yea, waiting for a train. Finally when we arrived in Lahti (an hour late!!), the rest of the participants had already listened to the welcome speeches and the workshops began. During these we learned some new things concerning group behavior, symbolic working and callidus tutoring. The workshops were really nice even though some of the used methods were already familiar to yours truly. After the official part ended we went to have dinner with a big group and well deserved sleep.
The next morning we had a lot more lecture focused activity planned with a couple of brainstorming sessions. A special notification from me to Laurea’s own students Riikka Pasanen and Anne Toikko, who held an educational presentation about the collaboration between tutor teachers and student tutors. The best part of the second day for me personally was a conversation with the experienced peer guidance professionals. The conversation gave this young and enthusiastic tutor rep
Overall the seminar was a highly successful one even though VR did their best to ruin the first day. I especially liked the fact that the two-day blast was well balanced between the “boring” matters and operational activities. The highlight of the seminar was the one thing that the formal part didn’t include. I mean of course getting to know other tutor reps from other schools and throwing ideas with them. Luckily I get to meet my great colleagues already next month in SAMOK’s guidance meeting.
Yours truly,
Juho Isohanni
